That night more drama ensued after I went back to my duties, sneaking in conversations with Anatoliy who was updating Samuel with all that was going on. I heard Cecil scream, but I was way across the house from it, and by the time I was able to make my way through all the people without trampling drunk humans or the people who beat me there, the mess was already going strong.

“This isn’t over, Neil,” some guy threatened Mr. Morgan, repeating it over and over again as he was dragged out of the house when I reached the foyer.

I tried to slide in between people, smelling Craig among the group but everyone wanted to see what was going on. Fucking gawkers! Why did I have to be so damn short?

“And the district attorney is going to ignore that it wasn’t Mr. Morgan who deactivated the collars if they get right back on the shifters,” I heard someone say, clearing his throat. Must have been the DA. I changed direction and finally got closer then. “Smart thinking, Cecil, but let’s keep that quiet.”

“Yes, sir,” Cecil agreed. I broke through the group as Mr. Morgan was reactivating a bunch of my friend’s collars. Okay, so I guess they had played security too.

Mr. Morgan smiled at the shifters. “Thanks, guys. You were awesome.”

“What you said was true,” Lev admitted with a shrug. “You’ve been nicer to us than any human ever has our whole lives. I wish I could work for you at parties always. Serving and flirting with a little something extra on the side has been the most fun any of us has ever had in our lives.”

“We do know someone who owns a catering business now,” Craig muttered to Mr. Morgan, knowing full well the shifters could all hear. “Could be a good investment opportunity.”

“Turn your brain off for one night,” Mr. Morgan drawled. “I’m having a moment here with my mate. Who I love.”

“Genius,” I whispered, no one paying me any attention. My mate might have just figured out our proposal to the governor.

“And that alone will have you explaining a few things to your guests,” Craig informed him.

“Let’s handle that and tonight you can show me all the ways you love me and then maybe I’ll claim you too,” Cecil purred, taking his hand. Then he kissed his mate while I moved up to mine. “My master saved my life.”

“What just happened?” I demanded. “Are you hurt? Were you stupid?”

“No, I’m fine,” he chuckled, leaning down and kissing me softly. “I had an idea though.”

“I heard. You’re a genius. We’ll talk later,” I praised, my heart swarming when his eyes shined at the compliment.

I stood off to the side and listened to Mr. Morgan and Craig explain that imprinting with an ocelot was really mating, and they’d just found that out, so until further notice, there was going to be an investigation into the whole thing and to please enjoy the party, but no more shifters were for sale.
